Electronical & Electrical Engineering

Introduction

Electronic products and devices, electrical machines and power distribution systems play a vital role in both our private and professional life. Electronic devices and technologies are evolving rapidly, becoming more complex and influencing industrial manufacturing processes. Communication technologies based on digital technology help us to increase the efficiency of workflows, fully-automated manufacturing systems which are the fundaments of a competitive industry relying on flexible and durable drive solutions - all integrated in a trustworthy infrastructure delivering the required power.

Therefore a dynamic and state-of-the-art training in the sectors of electronics, electrical machines and power will guarantee the future prosperity of every nation. In order to develop this qualification, teachers in this sector have a high responsibility to impart the respective knowledge, linked with the latest teaching equipment. Furthermore life-long learning is one of the key qualifications of a teacher for electrical technology to meet the needs of the industry and the working world.

Training programs

The Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering offers the following training programs:

  • Students of Electrical Machines (EM) acquire detailed knowledge in the handling, rewinding, maintenance and repair of different electrical devices such as single and three phase motors. Additionally, they will be trained to operate and control sophisticated electrical machines, motors and industrial installations ranging from power stations to factories. During the last semester, each trainee will plan and write up a Bachelor's project in a relevant field.

  • Students of Electrical Power (EP) receive knowledge in fundamental electric power engineering concepts and develop technical expertise about the transmission of electricity and installation of power systems. Another major topic is the field of automatic control and protection. During the last semester, each trainee will plan and write up a Bachelor's project in a relevant field.

  • Students of Electronics (EL) will learn to plan, develop and maintain advanced laboratory experiments in order to overview different types of embedded systems such as microcontrollers. Within the specialization, the students will additionally learn fundamental aspects of electricity and electronics and develop technical expertise in this field. This includes computer programming, process control and automation as well as programmable logic control (PLC). During the last semester, each trainee will plan and write up a Bachelor's project in a relevant field.

Characteristics of the training programs

The first year of training focuses on the fundamentals of electrical and electronic principles and builds on the syllabus of Phnom Penh Institute of Technology. The students' knowledge requires a solid foundation of basic physics and mathematics. Additionally, students will be instructed in the basics of electro technology and the writing and reading of technical documents and drawings. The design of digital, combinational and sequential circuits and instruction on different types of measurements form an important part of the syllabus for all three specializations.
